{"id":1938,"date":"2023-09-15T12:20:50","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T09:20:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mistyrose-fox-409623.hostingersite.com\/?page_id=1938"},"modified":"2023-10-24T10:10:01","modified_gmt":"2023-10-24T07:10:01","slug":"onychomycosis","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dryfanti.gr\/en\/medical-services\/clinical-dermatology\/onychomycosis\/","title":{"rendered":"Onychomycosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-0a47f927 single-service-section1\">\n<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-69d6dabf inner-container\">\n\n<p><strong>Onychomycosis<\/strong>&nbsp;is the fungal infection that affects both fingernails and toenails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hands are often affected by fungal infections caused by species of Candida while feet are often affected by dermatophytes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both genders and all age groups are affected by Onychomycosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Risk factors include<\/strong>: age (increased risk with older age), medical conditions like immunodeficiency, tinea pedis and trauma or other contributory factors like poor hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clinically<\/strong>, is observed hyperkeratosis, nail thickening, and discoloration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it is treated ineffective it may become painful and the infection of can be spread to other nails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The recurrence of onychomycosis varies among patients and is observed in the following cases:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The patient does not follow the doctor\u2019s instructions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The nail plate presents a reduced absorption of drugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interaction with other drugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drug resistance. Some fungal spores, present resistance to antifungal medicines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-infection (with the same or a different kind of fungus)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-5a790d08 gb-headline-text\">When should we be worried about?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>While the nails present spots, streaks or areas of yellow, brown or white colour or when they become discolored, damaged, thickened or broken.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Onychomycosis&nbsp;is the fungal infection that affects both fingernails and toenails.
